- Interesting
news about the new mobile racing game (now being called Crash Nitro
Kart 2), including new designs for Oxide and Ripper Roo.
27-03-2008
As mentioned in the previous news update,
Activision's decision on the Crash series' future was all a big false
alarm. The only thing there was left to confirm was whether Activision's
response to that fan was real or not. It seemed too odd to believe, but
now it's been confirmed: the fan (if you can call him that) acted it all
up.
Another fan (who goes by the name of
Crashfan) e-mailed Activision about it, and they do not dislike Crash in
any way. I have seen the response they gave him, and I guarantee you that
it is 100% real. To quote the important bit from that message:
"With respect to your
inquiry, I am not sure where you have received this information however
many times as you know, rumors are not always %100 true. Crash and Spyro
are indeed great games and there has been no indication that there will
not be any more in the future."
All credit goes to Crashfan, for
having the good will of getting to the bottom of this in the best possible
way. I also forgot to credit JumpButton for the last update, so I'd like
to thank him now, as he was the one who asked Radical about Variety's
report.
To conclude this saga of updates:
- Variety's report is false.
- Activision likes Crash.
- Crash will return!
26-03-2008
- According to Radical, Variety (last
update's source) was purely speculating, and nothing is known about this
kind of things just yet, since the deal between Vivendi and Activision
still isn't complete. If things stay this way, this is obviously a big
relief, so let's hope so. As for the fan mail that was previously
mentioned, its verity remains unconfirmed. Since it doesn't make sense
(and because it's an odd thing to reply to a fan), I'm personally a little
skeptical about it. If there are updates on that bit, you'll be knowing
it.

Note: These news have been disproven and are completely false.
Crash Bandicoot's career may be at stake. As you may
have heard, Vivendi will soon be merged with Activision, thus forming
Activision Blizzard (given that name because of Vivendi's Blizzard
department). Also, as you probably know, Sierra is the publisher in
charge of the Crash games. As they are a subsidiary of Vivendi's, this
merge will affect them too.
Now, this may not seem worrying at
first, but here's the thing: Activision wants Sierra to re-pitch their
games to them. Depending on Activision's decision to go through with those
games, they may be discontinued. This includes such games as Scarface,
Spyro the Dragon and, of course, Crash Bandicoot. Any projects that are
being worked on at the moment will be finished without Activision's
interference, but any games after that will be walking on very thin ice.
This could be Crash's last chance. (Source)
Activision's opinion on Crash?
According to a fan who e-mailed them, they think it's dead, and that the
only reason why it's still going is because of the hardcore fans' support.
Assuming that response is real, I'm
not even going to comment on it, because it does not make sense.
But if I know the fan community well, people aren't going to take this
lightly.
- A new mobile game is coming soon.
It's called Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart,
though it has nothing to do with the old CNK.
14-02-2008
- Titans may not have
won the WGA, but as a surprise, it has received yet another
nomination! This time, it's been nominated for the Elan Awards for Best
Sound Design and Best Character. You can see more details at Radical's
page. Crash is getting a lot of recognition with this last game, so I'd be
very proud if I were a Radical employee, especially with Scarface there
too. (Thanks to Venusy for the heads-up.)

Well, it looks like Crash of the Titans didn't win the WGA. The
winner is Dead Head Fred. Still, it's already pretty cool that it
got nominated out of so many games.

Crash of the Titans has received a nomination! The first annual WGA
(Writer's Guild Awards) has nominated the latest of the bandicoot's
games, which was written by Christopher Mitchell. The award winners will
be announced on February 9 this year.

One of CM's pictures has been published on this month's UK edition of
the Official PlayStation 2 Magazine. Now there's a surprise. For those
of you wondering, the picture they used is Dingodile's
Crash 3 model. (Thanks to Lars E. Mou for the heads-up and the
scan.)
PS: OPS2M, IF YOU'RE READING THIS, PLEASE HIRE ME, 'KAY, THANKS.
- Crash
of the Titans' official soundtrack has been
released.
- Evan Wells, the co-president of Naughty Dog (Crash Bandicoot's
creators) has expressed that he was saddened by Crash being developed by
other teams. When asked for his opinion about it, Wells responded
"It's a little bit like watching your daughter do porn." [Source]

It's
hard to make sense out of the whole GBA
Titans thing. The advertisements never mention such a version in
Europe, and the game was initially nowhere to be seen. But just
recently, an actual PAL version has mysteriously sprouted in European
and Australasian stores. I hate being so contradictory, but this time I
blame the people in charge of the ads, along with the delayed release.
It's not that a lot of players actually care much about this version,
but there's no denying that there's been a bit of a bamboozle. In short,
there is a PAL version.
12-10-2007
Titans is out over here in Europe and (presumably) the other PAL
regions! Those with a PS2 would do well in keeping an eye out for the
special Monster Edition, which comes chock full of goodies and a bonus
DVD. Contrarily, those who were looking forward to the GBA release may
want to prepare themselves for a disappointment, because that version
doesn't seem available in Europe anywhere. If the contrary is proven,
I'll give you the heads-up.

Crash of the Titans is out in NTSC regions. Get it while it's
hot, get it while it's buttered!
15-09-2007
- The School
& Youth website has been updated with Crash buddy icons and
Wallpapers.
- N-Gage (the cell phone portal, not the old handheld) is to receive new
Crash games soon. Read more about it here.
21-08-2007
- The School and Youth website has been updated to feature its new champion, Crash Bandicoot.
09-08-2007
- This time it's not about video-games, but about a much more important cause: Crash Bandicoot is the new champion for the Society's School and Youth programs, and will be promoting the fight against blood cancer. This is an association taken between Vivendi Games and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. You can read all about it
here.

- The official Crash site has been given a new face, and it's been renamed into Crash Village. Their goal is to create an online virtual society aimed at younger fans, where they can create their own character, interact with other members' characters in a free-roaming world and -here it comes- get a virtual tattoo. Okay...
- Crash Bandicoot 2 can now be downloaded from PlayStation Network. Thanks to Pierre-Luc for the info.
