Latest update: 13/04/2008. This page deals with the progression of the storyline, as far as chronological events go. Each game portrays a main event, sometimes being directly linked to other games, and sometimes being a standalone adventure on its own. Games that are accepted as part of the mainstream storyline are usually referred to as canonical (or canon games). To help emphasizing this and make things clearer, let's call each set of adventures an arc. For a collection of arcs, we'll call it a saga. Certain arcs occur between sagas and wrap themselves up without making significant changes to the storyline. They're usually there to fill in until the next adventure is released, so we'll be calling those fillers. Those may or may not be considered canon, depending on what happens in them. This naming method is commonly used for animation series, but it also works well here.
Although Crash Tag Team Racing doesn't contradict any past events, it's worth noting that Radical Entertainment does not consider it to be canonical. So what about the other games? They're generally accepted as not fitting in with the canon universe, because they mark events that conflict with it, even if they were to be considered fillers. These are the reasons for this: - The GameBoy Advance games compose a separate storyline that is accepted as an alternate universe. It has exclusive characters and doesn't fit in with the other sagas. In fact, these games create a sidestory of their own, which is generally not considered canonical:
- Both Crash Bash and Crash: Boom, Bang! are standalone gaidens that conflict with the other sagas. Crash Bash's endings do not make sense if inserted into any saga, and Crash: Boom, Bang! is completely different in style and general ambient. - Crash of the Titans' Nintendo DS and GameBoy Advance versions have unique storylines. Both stories differ drastically from the story in the main version, so they can't be accepted as canon. This applies even further to the DS version's 100% ending. |
