Penta is an ordinary penguin. He got recognition from being a hidden character in the game Crash Team Racing, but it is also theorized that he is the same penguin from Crash 3's Dingodile boss fight. It is also theorized that he is the penguin from Crash Bash's Snow Bash mini-game. Either him or lots of other penguins appear in Crash 2 as common snow enemies (the model is the same in all of the games, except the on in Crash Bash). However, an interesting fact is that he is protected by Aku Aku in Crash Team Racing, so this could mean that he does not actually appear in Crash 2.

This is the original Penta model (and the same model used for the penguin enemies in Crash 2.

CTR (in-kart)
Penta's in-kart model is quite different. For starters, his otherwise dark blue feathers are black here. He looks much smaller, and has bigger eyes. The most distinctive difference is that he wears a purple scarf around his neck. Given such a different model, and since the one used in the podium is just a recycled enemy model, maybe this is the definite appearance that Penta was supposed to have. Since he's a minor secret character, it is possible that they didn't bother with making a podium model for him.
