Dr.
Neo Periwinkle Cortex
Dokutā Neo Korutekkusu (ドクター ネオ コルテックス)
Classification: Human (Homo Sapiens Sapiens)
Gender: Male
Kind: Evil
Height: 1.60 meters
Weight: 59 kilograms
Dr.
Neo Cortex is Crash's creator and
arch-nemesis. Cortex is a genius scientist stubbornly bent on World domination and evil
science. His first maniacal plot involved
snatching animals from the jungle and evolving them with the Evolvo-Ray. He then proceeded to turn them into his side by having them
zapped with his Cortex Vortex. Crash Bandicoot was originally
intended to be the general in his army of super animals, but the
experiment failed as the machine couldn't brainwash Crash.
Ever since, Crash has been Cortex's sworn enemy and he always shows up to
put an end to whatever diabolical scheme Dr. Cortex may have in mind.
Dr.
Cortex used to be friends with Dr. Nitrus Brio, but their rivalry soon
separated them and put them against one another. Cortex bossed Brio around
too much and always took credit for his success (including the invention
of the first fully functional Evolvo-Ray). Cortex's right
hand man is now Dr. N. Gin, who is loyal and treats him as his master. Dr.
Nefarious Tropy worked together with Cortex once, but as fate would have
it, the two eventually became non-friendly rivals. Though Cortex is the
usual mastermind in the opposition against Crash, he is actually more of a lackey to Uka
Uka, who constantly gets furious at Cortex's failed attempts for World
domination.
Cortex's only shred of affection goes towards his beloved
niece, Nina Cortex. He is very protective of her and worries about her
idealisms- being an evil scientist, Cortex was disturbed by Nina's
initially kind
nature, which ultimately led him to send Nina to the Academy
of Evil, in hopes that this place could change her. He also replaced her
hands with bionic versions, making her much stronger, and at the same time
keeping the fragile and innocent animals she once adored away from her. It
is possible that Nina Cortex may in fact be his daughter- when she was
once captured by Evil Crash, Dr. Cortex almost accidentally referred to
her as his daughter, but he quickly covered that up. There are many critters
that have been genetically modified by the
doctor, including - but not limited to - Crash, Coco, Tiny Tiger, Dingodile,
Crunch and, of course, his loyal army of Titans. On a final
footnote, Cortex is the only evil scientist who is left-handed. Click

Crash
Bandicoot
Voiced by: Brendan O' Brien/Shouzou Iizuka (Japan)
The original Cortex model. |

Crash
Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
Voiced by: Clancy Brown/Shouzou Iizuka (Japan)
This new model is more detailed. The hair on his head and face have a
purple tone now, and his beard seems less arranged. His eyes have brown
irises. The N on his forehead is darker, and more straightened. He has
blue boots now. |
 |
Crash
Bandicoot 3: Warped
Voiced by: Clancy Brown/Shouzou Iizuka (Japan)
This model is even more detailed than the previous one. The N on his
forehead got black toned; the hair has a dark blue tone; the pupils are
much smaller and no longer have brown irises; there are more visible teeth, as well as visible gums. Note:
The model shown in the Tiny boss is the one from Crash 2. The one from
the Cortex boss is the one from Crash 1. |

Crash
Team Racing
Voiced by: Clancy Brown/Shouzou Iizuka (Japan)
CTR uses the third model for cutscenes and winning poses, and the first
model for losing poses. |
 |
Crash
Bash
The Crash Bash model resembles the Naughty Dog ones, but with much
less detail and a still face (except for his shocked expression when he
gets zapped in Polar Push games). He is taller, overall (slightly taller
than Crash, due to his oversized cranium).
A more detailed model is used in the cutscenes, resembling that of Crash
3. |

Crash
Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex
Voiced by: Clancy Brown/Shouzou Iizuka (Japan)
Cortex has more polygons than ever before, noticeable in various aspects
such as separate fingers. In comparison to Crash 3, the N is gray again;
the skin colour is yellow now; more detailed hair and bigger eyebrows;
stretched eyes, almost Asian-like, and with red pupils. He seems taller
altogether. Note: Though he's wearing a suit in this picture, he never
does that in the game, as he wears the old lab coat. |
 |
Crash
Bandicoot XS
The picture is somewhat obscured by the red bolt, but it's actually
the clearest view of the model throughout the entire game. This is a
low-in-polygons model that Vicarious Visions created to keyframe what they
needed for some cutscenes and the boss fight. The face always has this
expression, which suggests that it doesn't animate.
Note: In most cutscenes, the Crash 3 model is used, namely those that have
been screencapped from that game. |

Crash
Nitro Kart/Fusion
Voiced by: Clancy Brown/Shouzou Iizuka (Japan)
Vicarious Visions created a model which looks like a mixture of all 3
Naughty Dog models. The hair and eyebrows are disarranged, but the beard
seems very combed. The N on his forehead is blue, and he now has red gloves
and boots, as opposed to the usual yellow ones. |

Crash
Twinsanity
Voiced by: Lex Lang/Shouzou Iizuka (Japan)
Seeing as Traveller's Tales continued Twinsanity from The WoC, I'll
compare this model to the one used in The WoC. Cortex's hair and eyebrows
seem spikier. His face is much different, such as the black outlines
around the eyes; smaller, black pupils; visible gums again and detailed
mouth insides; dark red gloves and boots, and different styled boots; new
lab coat without shoulder pads, with a line on the side and an N in the
chest. He is taller than ever in this game (noticeably taller than Crash).
As with all Twinsanity models, this one has 5 fingers.
Cortex shows his more sensitive side in this game, when he is humiliated
or scared by something, or even affectionate (towards his beloved
niece). Twinsanity marks the introduction of a funnier and looser
Cortex, who doesn't take himself as seriously as before.

Crash
Tag Team Racing
Voiced by: Lex Lang/Shouzou Iizuka (Japan)
Cortex is back to his old size, perhaps even shorter. The N on his forehead is now very shiny,
almost like if metal-plated. There are no visible gums now; he has labels
on his gloves; the boots are back in the old style, but with the new
colouring. His name is often misspelled as "Neocortex"
in this game.

Crash
of the Titans
Voiced by: Lex Lang
Contrasting greatly with his previous self, Cortex is now taller
than ever before. The top of his head is rounded, instead of just
plain flat. All of his hair (including facial hair) has gained a
dark blue tone, ala Crash 3. It's also of a different shape.
His ears are bigger and lastly, his head is taller and not as wide
as before. |

CTR
(In-Kart)
All in-kart models from CTR are much more polygonal versions than usual, since
8 of the usual character models on screen at the same time would be more than
the PS1 could handle. |

Crash:
Boom, Bang!
Voiced by: Yousuke Akimoto
CBB was the first Crash game to be developed by a Japanese team. This gave
the characters the looks they've always had in Japanese artwork and
promotions. Like all CBB models, it is cel-shaded, giving it cartoony
visuals.
