Aku Aku
(also spelled Aku-Aku)
Aku Aku (アク アク)
Classification:
Spirit
Gender: Male
Kind: Good
Many
centuries ago, Aku
Aku was a great benevolent witch doctor. He
cared for the well-being of his fellows and his home islands. Today he is no longer
a "living" being in flesh, so to speak, but his spirit is still present to protect the planet he
loves. Aku Aku communicates and acts through the aid of a special mask, which represents his
entity as a form of incarnation. Ever since Crash Bandicoot was
created, Aku Aku has always been around to protect him, like a sort of
sidekick.
Because of his mystical powers and vast wisdom, Aku Aku is
a strong ally in the fight against Dr. Neo Cortex and, moreover, Uka Uka,
who is Aku Aku's younger evil twin brother. It was him who locked up Uka
Uka a long time ago, after he tried an attack against him and the other
guardian spirits.
Aku Aku is kind, caring and helpful,
and his experiences over the ages have given him a strong sense of
intuition. He is always present whenever the World is in danger, and he
does his best to protect it. He also obeys to the rules of superior
entities referred to as "The Ancients", though he is never seen
communicating with them, nor do they ever show up before anyone. Aku Aku resides in Wumpa Island, living with
Crash, Coco and Crunch, to whom he plays a sort of fatherly role.
Aku Aku
can materialize in most places he wants when he has enough energy, and
also concentrate that energy to create beams, small
explosions or simply get a hold of things. Additionally, he has the
ability to shape-shift so that he can fit onto someone's face. When
latched onto a person's face, he is able to control that person's mind (an
ability called Jacking). Aku Aku can also be used as a
slide-board.
Trivia: His name may or may not be derived from Easter
Island's expression "Aku-Aku", meaning "spiritual
guide" (something that would describe him perfectly).

- In the Crash 3 cutscenes, Aku Aku has a much more
detailed model. His face isn't just painted on now, and we can now
hear him talk.
- The same model is used in Crash bash, with slightly different
textures. |

Team Racing

In CTR, Aku Aku has orange, larger eyebrows. His eyes just seem painted
on. The nose and the lips have gotten orange too. His face looks wider. On
a side-note, this model was actually first created for the Japanese
version of Crash 2, and it's displayed whenever he gives out hints if you release
him from a Crate (despite having wider lips there). |

Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex

Aku Aku now has 7 feathers instead of the usual 4. The wood in the mask
seems more realistic, and is dented on top. The nose is larger, and more
person-like. The lips are thinner, and of a light brown. The goatee is
much spikier. |

Crash Nitro Kart/Fusion

The CNK model resembles the Crash 3 cutscene model, but its colours are much more solid, and
its lips,
eyebrows and nose are all red. |

Crash Twinsanity
Voiced by: Mel Winkler/Ken'ichi Ogata (Japan)
This model is similar to the Crash 3 cutscene model, but with much more detail, and with more vibrant colours and textures. |

Crash
Tag Team Racing (Cameo)
Aku Aku doesn't exactly appear in this game, but you can see various
fake masks holding spears in the scenery of Tiki Turbo, saying his well-known
mumbo-jumbo. |

Crash
of the Titans
Voiced by: Greg Eagles
Aku Aku is represented through a whole different mask. He is bigger,
wider and a bit similar to a big ape. He has 5 feathers instead
of 4 (with a different colour order), green leaf-like ribbons coming
out from the sides and a large brown beard. He is also able to shape-shift
to fit onto the heads of Titans.
His name was changed to or misspelled as Aku-Aku here.

Boom, Bang!
CBB was the first Crash game to be developed by a Japanese team.
This gave the characters the looks they've always had in Japanese
artwork and promotions.
Some of the main differences between Japanese and standard Aku Aku
are the existence of pupils in his eyes, an "angrier"
expression and different feather colours. |
